Is this statement about why we have the Right to Bear Arms true?
My friend told me the original reason we have the right to bear arms was for the Government to be afraid of us? Is this true?

The original reason for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms was so the government would stay in the hands of the people.
Some will try to claim that the Founding Fathers, after watching the Revolutionary War being touched off at Lexington and Concord by the British acting on the belief that the only reason for the people to bear arms was to bear them as a member of the militia, regulated by the government, intended the Second Amendment in the Bill of RIGHTS to mean that the people could only bear them as a member of the militia, regulated by the government.
The MILITIA was what was to be regulated, not arms, not the people.
a. A well regulated militia—The goal
b. being necessary to the security of a free State,—The reason
c. the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.—The means of accomplishing the goal.
This is spelled out in a quote from one of the authors of the 2nd Amendment, Tench Coxe;
“Whereas civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as military forces, which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.”
The National Guard is a select militia, like the Second Amendment was passed, in part, to defend against.
