What are the dangers of introducing a new dog to a house dog?

I was wondering if there’s any disease and whatnot I should be worried about with introducing a new dog coming into my house.

Possibly, but not likely. Make sure to take this puppy to a vet when you get it. It’s also possible, but not very likely, for your dog to get sick from some other dog he meets up with. Vaccinations, while effective, aren’t 100%. If you are buying from a good breeder, the puppy won’t have anything wrong with it. If you are buying from a shelter, the puppy still probably won’t have anything wrong with it..but the shelter will tell you if something is wrong.

Your biggest concern will be needing to crate the puppy when you can’t be in the room to watch it so your other dog doesn’t injure it. It’s going to be an adjustment for your first dog. Let the first dog establish dominance, but just make sure he doesn’t injure or kill the puppy. Growling to let him know who’s boss, to let the puppy know not to mess with him, etc. is fine. But don’t let it get physical, and make sure the puppy doesn’t do anything that results in injury. If it does, don’t punish the older dog. Just take the puppy to the vet, and understand the stubborn little puppy will have learned a valuable lesson.

Also, if your dog is over the age of 2 or 3, I would suggest getting an adult dog that can handle him. Your first dog will be able to handle an adult dog much better than he will a puppy. Older dogs tend to be very intolerant of puppies if they haven’t been around puppies much. That was a big thing when we got our Poodle/Schnauzer mutt. Our Toy Poodle was 2 when we got Sammy, who was also about her age. A puppy would not be able to handle her playing.
